Message from your 2026 Rector
Scot Yearwood

Hi,  my name is Scot Yearwood and I made my Cursillo weekend in September of 2024. For me Cursillo, opened my mind and heart to immensity of God’s infinite love for each one of us.  I formed meaningful relationships through Christian community and gained a greater appreciation for prayer and living my faith in my daily life.

I am honored to serve as the Rector for the Men’s 2026 Cursillo and I’m happy to share with you the theme song I have chosen - “Lord I Need You” by Matt Maher.  I chose this song as it reflects the simple essence of my reliance on God. It is true, as sung, that “Without you, I fall apart; You’re the one that guides my heart.”  As your 2026 Rector, I invite you to this time away to connect more deeply with the Lord, yourself, and members of your Christian community.  Life can be hard.  Life can be full of adversity, struggles, loss, pain and suffering.  We are living in times of uncertainty, division and fear. Yet, our Lord is always with us offering love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, courage, and peace. We need only be open to receiving these wonderful gifts.  Bring a friend or many friends and come join me on September 10th through the 13th, 2026 for a Cursillo of growing together in faith, hope, and love.

Ultreya!

Scot Yearwood

Message from your 2026 Rectora

PattyFixed

Dear Friends in Christ,

My name is Patty MacEgan, and I lived my Cursillo beginning in October 2011. Kathy Kitchura was my Rectora, and our psalm was “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understandings. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.”

I cannot begin to tell you how I have loved that Proverb. I have leaned heavily on it ever since you took it to heart on my Cursillo weekend.

As your 2026 Rectora, I hope to provide our next class of candidates with a similar experience, with the inspiring help of God and the saints! Our theme is “Let go, Let God”. This is very simple and you’ve heard it before. But we are in the midst of hard times. There is war and strife; our children are turning away from God; life is hard. How prepared are we to really understand that God is in control?

Like you, I have had my share of hard times. I understand loss; I know about suffering. Let us unite our suffering with Jesus on His cross. Let us lay it all at His feet and let God’s mercy bathe us with acceptance, forgiveness, courage, understanding, and peace.

Come join me on October 22-25, 2026, for a Cursillo of healing and hope! Bring a friend to Christ, someone who needs to Let go and Let God.

Ultreya!

Patty MacEgan

Why should I consider attending a Cursillo Weekend?

  • Do you want a deeper, more intimate relationship with Christ?
  • Do you feel like something missing in your life?
  • Do you want to get in touch with your spirituality and get the most out of your faith?
  • Do you really want “to want" to go to Church?
  • Do you know someone who has attended a Cursillo weekend and are wondering if you should too?
  • Do you attend Church regularly but feel you want a greater support network of like-minded Catholics?
  • Do you want to be more involved in your Catholic Christian community?

If you answer Yes to any of these questions, then Cursillo could be for you.
Making a Cursillo weekend is a great way to deepen your relationship with Christ. It is transformational… most participants (laity AND clergy) feel renewed and refreshed after the weekend and they feel connected to other participants and to God.

    Cursillo IS:
  • An official CHARISM of our faith

  • Cursillo is an encounter with oneself, Christ, and others. Millions of Catholics worldwide have refreshed their faith through Cursillo.

  • Cursillo is a proven method for finding solutions to the issues faced in our Catholic lives. Call it a spiritual recharge…

  • Cursillo is a proven method for growing and staying in a closer relationship with Christ for the rest of our lives.

  • Cursillo is a proven method to help bring a relationship with Christ to others around you. It teaches you to evangelize our brothers and sisters who may be drifting!

  • Cursillo is a proven method of sharing with others about your daily struggles and triumphs in living out God's plan for your life.

  • Cursillo is rooted in Catholicism; everything is directly based on the teaching of the Catholic Church and Scripture. It is recognized and encouraged by the magisterium of the church including the past several Popes.

    Cursillo IS NOT:
  • Cursillo is not an organization; it is a powerful, worldwide lay movement of the Catholic Church.

  • Cursillo is not just a retreat. Although the first step is a 3-day weekend encounter, the real value begins after attending a weekend.

  • It is not meant to fix individual problems such a drug or alcohol abuse, difficult personal relationships, etc..

Cursillo Weekend Registration Process

A Candidate is someone seeking information about the Cursillo Movement and participation at a scheduled Cursillo Weekend. If a parish does not have a Cursillo Representative, Candidates are encouraged to locate fellow parishioners who have made a Weekend and guidance from the PreCursillo Chair for additional direction.

A Sponsor will be the friend and support to the Candidate as their Weekend draws closer. The Sponsor must be willing to accept his/her responsibilities and obligations to the Candidate, such as helping them join a Group Reunion, being the continued support before, during and after they have lived a Weekend, and finding ways their Candidate may wish to actively participate in the Movement.

Sponsors will assist their candidate complete the Candidate Form(pdf) or Online Form and collect the non-refundable deposit fee of $100. (The remaining balance for the Weekend will be due the last day of the weekend.)

Sponsors will complete a Sponsor Form(pdf) or Online Form and submit a completed registration packet directly to the PreCursillo Chair. The registration packet includes: the Sponsor Form, the Candidate Form and a $100 non-refundable deposit.

Inspire Evening at St. Teresa of Avila, Auburn

320x254.jpg

On Saturday, July 8, 2023, our Cursillo Secretariat was allowed to make a presentation to the parishioners of St. Teresa’s who were interested in finding out a little more about our Cursillo charism. We combined this presentation with an ultreya and were blessed to have a total attendance of about 40 people. About 25 Cursillistas came up the mountain to join us at Mass and the ultreya afterwards, and about 15 came from the local parish. Fr. Arbel Cabasagan, the parish priest opened us in prayer. We served pizza and soda to all attendees.

Michael Faber served as MC and keynote speaker, and we also heard presentations from Jeff Williams, Monica Small, Kathy Bauer and her husband Ron, both rector and rectora for this year’s weekend.

WB Heilmann led us in country gospel worship hymns between presentations.

During the entire event, Chris Juten and Manny Duenas prayed for the event and prayed for individuals seeking hands on intercessory prayer. Seven people availed themselves of the opportunity.

Afterward, participants indicated if they were interested in learning more. Two men from Auburn are interested in attending the weekend, and one Auburn lady was interested in joining a womens 4th day group in Rocklin.  Several other potential Cursillo weekend prospects drove up to Auburn and solidified their desire to attend a weekend. Overall, it was a joy filled event.
